Where did the partion go???

By 1itguy ·
I will add the type/model of machine and hard drive in question at a later date. The pc is running win98 on a pentuim 150 with a 18 or 20 gig hard drive that is partioned into 2 drives... C and D. The D drive disappears and will not reappear if adefrag is run on the c drive. Scan disk can be run on both c and d prior to the defrag without any errors. After Defrag the only way to get the d drive back is to delete and recreate the logical in Fdisk. Someone PLEASE help me on this.....

Where did the partion go???

Do you have any anti virus software with the latest definations? Is there a partition manager running on the disk so that your computer can see the entire hard drive? If all else fails, have you tried fdisk /mbr from the startup disk? I will needmore information to answer the question completely and accurately. Does the drive make any noise and have you run a scan disk after the defrag?

Hi, Everett, One thing you can do to help with your problem is to update your BIOS to detect larger sized hard drive without have to use harddrive managers. You can find the latest BIOS for your motherboard at:

http://www.windrivers.com

While you are there downdload the latest drivers for all of your hardware devices also. This will make Windows run better.

Good luck and have a great day.

I have to agree with the above posting. A P150 is old enough that the Motherboards BIOS may not be able to see large drives above 2GB.

I would try and find an update to the BIOS. If you know what Motherboard you have will make it easier but ifyou do not know who made the motherboard you might be able to find out by going to http://motherboards.org . They have a search function the needs either the boards Part Number or the BIOS string (found on the bios chip).
