I did a bit more

Internships are a good starting place, but I also volunteered at a local computer recycling center while I was applying at different places.
Also, I had been applying for positions as well (non intern).

Consider

Volunteer work for a non-profit. Yes, it doesn't pay the bills but will expose you to all KINDS of different things.

Smaller companies with small networks may also be an option. They know that you won't stay forever but will pay you and you will learn things.

Consider what you were doing through school- anything that can be put on your resume? Even unpaid work can be noted.

Check with your school, they may have leads and recommendations as well.

Good luck!
