Where should a person new to IT start to get smart on IT security?

By LovetheOutdoors ·
As a guy who is intelligent, I don't have ANY experience with IT. However, I want to get smart on IT and IT security. Where do I start? I am a mid-level professional with little time for conventional training.

The quickest way to pick up knowlege

would be to go for certification. In security, the CompTIA Security + certification would be a good starting point, and the CISSP would be your next step.

There are some other certifications that would be useful to gather specific general IT knowledge, such as Cisco or Microsoft certification.

You can prepare for these either on your own, or through training offered through a college, or a training center of some sort.
