where to download HP printer drivers - JUST the drivers

By smclellan ·
Does anyone have any ideas where I might find drivers for HP printers? I mean JUST the drivers, several device manufacturers allow the download of just drivers, why not HP. They seem to be under the impression that I want their software on my computer that forces its way into startup and decides that it needs to update all the time, even though ALL I want to do is print. Is it just me or does this bug the bejeezus out of anyone else. Sure there's other manufacturers, but I have yet to spend 30 minutes downloading "drivers" (on a T1) with anyone else.

Don't know if this will help

But, I'm using PCLinuxOS as an interim OS. Interestingly, although several years old, the distro came forth with the driver -- just and only the driver -- for my HP Deskjet F380 All-in-One. In drilling down, I came across a caveat that the drivers were as-is, where-is, how-is, what-is, with no guarantee (but, they work). This, in contrast to what you mention, as I experienced on XP, seeming petabytes of other crap by and from HP.

Printer drivers have been the reason I tried, and wiped, many Linux distros in the past. This time, suprisingly, not.

Ergo, such a thing does exist: just the damned driver.

That gives me an idea!

I hadn't thought of it before, but in reading your reply I suppose I could build my own print server from a Linux distro and share it that way. Possibly saving me from HP driver **** in the future.

It is still so irritating that HP doesn't/won't release a simple driver file for their printers. For when I end up having to work on a friend or family members computer.

msconfig is for. Control your startup processes.

network install version

some, but not all, HP models have a administrator's network installation version which is, for the most part, just the drivers.

If the model you buy is a consumer version, chances are you won't find the network installation version of software.
