Where to find Mother Board Manuals

By Maggot ·
Tried Mother boards.org, does one have to open an account to access the manuals?

I need to know how much memory a MSI Intel Pentium 2 350 MHz can support per slot. Also what speed and clock?

I haven't opened the case yet as it is in service. Operating system is Windows 98 SE.

At MSI's website you can find all their MB manuals, drivers, etc.
Here's the link to the manuals:

I normally use motherboards.org to get the link to the manufactures web site, and download the manual from them.

Motherboards.org can be useful for when the manufacture has gone out of business, or for obscure "OEM" motherboards.

For most PII systems, the RAM limit is either 128MB or 256MB per slot.
On a PII system, you need PC100 SDRAM.

The important question (that most likely is NOT covered in the motherboard manual) is what type of SDRAM technology is supported.

SDRAM technology has evolved quite a bit over the past 5 years, and not all motherboards support all styles of SDRAM DIMMs.

You may need older single density DIMMs for this board.
If you are lucky, it supports double density DIMMs.
It most likely does NOT support the newest quad density DIMMs.

I suggest that you work with a local dealer who would be willing to install the DIMMs, and swap in different DIMMs until you find some that work.

Alternately, check at 1 of the big RAM supplies and see what style of DIMMs they recommend for the motherboard.

As a side note: if you plan to stay with W98, limit the amount of RAM to 384MB.
There is a bug in the core Windows 9X code that can cause ALL kinds of problems if you install more than 511MB of RAM.
The bug is VERY configuration dependant.
