where's device manager? xp

i have xp-home with sp2... went to install a network adapter and had some problem.. so i wanted to check out something in the device manager... nothing comes there... blank window... am i missing something?

to get to Device manager from
Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Computer Management
Control Panel - System - Hardware Tab.
You aren't logged on as an unprivileged user are you ?

There's a number of ways to get to it.

Run "devmgmt.msc" or "compmgmt.msc".

Run "mmc", File --> Add/Remove Snap-In, Add, select Device Manager and add it.

Folder Options Not set??

Another way would be to go to the "Folder Options" and then set it to hide nothing , show everything and use classic view.
This, is where I think your problem lies.
