Which Imaging software to use for Server Backup?

By jscogin ·
Hello everyone,

I would like to take a complete image of my Domain Controller server for restoration in case of a failure. Of course, this isnt to replace my nighly backups, but I would feel more comfy if i new i could recover the server to an original state.

Can someone please reccoemend some software that they have used. The more specific the better (company, title, version number)

I noticed that acronis has their true image home product, will that work for taking an local image of the server? Or do i need something more rubust? Also, I am running a RAID 1 on the server I want to image.

Thank you,

Jeremy

ASR

You can use the free ASR backup feature in Windows 2003 which allows you to backup 2003 to a bkf file on HD or to tape and if the server fails, boot off the Windows CD and press F2, it will ask for a ASR floppy disk and start the restore process. Simple.

Alternatives include Ghost Solution Suite from Symantec and Acronis True Image Enterprise Server.
