As a support tech of a free hosted application for managing software projects, its always funny for me to have people asking me if there is a version they can purchase to install in-house. More and more I’ve noticed there seems to be a divide amongst our community as to which is the best way to ensure your data is secure. I figured it would make for interesting banter, so I’ll ask “Is it better to host your information/applications at a 3rd party facility or keep it in-house? Which way is more secure? What are some Pro’s of each? What are some con’s of each?
I happen to think it is best to employ a 3rd party to host your information/applications. The risks associated to using a 3rd party for hosting are much lower than hosting myself. They can provide the best security technology at a cost effective delivery rate, better than anything I could afford in-house. Because security of my information is their number one concern, I can hold them accountable if anything goes wrong. There isn’t the sloppy employee issues to deal with should something go wrong, its a client/vendor relationship prep the contract. I can pit two vendors against each other to help lower fees, raise accountability standards and lower the risks of a bad relationship. Best of all I am not stuck with “Dying” technology. They are constantly upgrading their facilities so my information/applications are always running on the fastest machines.
