I experience frequent disconnects while on the internet. I have a Compaq Presario 2286 with Windows 98 purchased 2/14/99. This is my home computer. It has a Rockwell HCF 56K Data Fax PCI Modem with a firmware version number of xxx.134. I can’t remember how I found the number. I just remembered the last 3 digits. From what I’ve read, I need to upgrade and http://808news.com/56k/hcf7.htm probably contains the upgrade I want, but WHICH ONE? Can someone give me a good first guess, because I’m notconfident I can go back to my original unless someone can tell me how to back it up properly. Compaq gave me no capability to reinstall certain programs on my computer. The backup drive seems to insist on restoring the whole computer to factory presets! I desperately want to avoid that.
