Which process has a lock on the file?

By gperrie ·
Hi all,

I have some files being automatically generated by Siebel 7.0.5.1 on my Win2k server. A script then picks these up, mails them and moves them to an archive folder.

Normally this works fine but I now have the problem where my script fails because it can't delete the file. When I try and manually delete the file I get the message "The source or destination may be in use". There are no users connecting to this machine so I think it must be a process holding onto the file.

Any idea how can I tell which process has locked the file?

Many thanks

search the web for a program / file called procexp.exe

It will view all your open processes and tell you what each one is doing. When you find that hung process... KILL it.
