Which SQL electives should I choose?

By maduca ·
I am currently an MCSE and I want to learn SQL and get my MCDBA. My question is what electives are most recomended? I don't know if taking Visual Fox Pro or which Visual Basic would be best. I keep thinking what it would be like if I chose to take an elective other than TCP/IP for my MCSE ( I found it key to my understanding of NT), but in that situation I had someone to guide me through, here I do not. Any suggestions would be most appreciated. Thanks

Hi, you have two tests for SQL - SQL administration and SQL design. There is also a third which is not required which is data warehousing. So, unlike the mcse you do not have to take and pass many tests, but these tests are rigorous. Visual basic isactually part of the msdn certification, but is integrated with SQL. The benefit of visual basic is its integration with all the ms office products. Concentrate on the two SQL tests first and look at microsofts training and certification site (www.microsoft.com)for more detailed information about the mcdba. Hope this helps.

The magic comes from DBA (or DATABASE something). You will absolutely need something (other than SQL) used to communicate with database software and Microsoft uses VB (VBA within Access GUI's linked to SQL-Server databases, etc.). The leap is hugebut if you take the trouble to fine tune both programming AND engineering skills you will certainly increase your worth as an MCSE, MCSD, or MCDBA. You would truly know how to Manage Relational Databases. FoxPro (to me) is a wast of time compared to VB, Access, and SQL-Server.
