Who Determines Policies Affecting End Users?

By mandms7 ·
We recently purchased an e-mail security appliance that among other things does content filtering. In testing this out, I found there are some users in our organization who love to use profanity and other inappropriate content in their e-mails.

I'm wondering who in your organization determines such things as what's right/wrong to view on the Internet, what kind of language/content should be filtered in e-mail, etc.? Is this IT's decision, Human Resources, or Senior Managment?

about a year or so ago. That was about setting policies within companies for usage. I think a lot of that discussion would still apply to your question here.

It is the company as a whole who is responsible for setting the policies and informing the members what is acceptable and not acceptable. Don't forget to run it by your "legal" department too. You don't want to filter people's rights.

It is most important in my opinion to make sure that all members understand what the policy is, how it will be enforced, etc.
