I have found out that Novell has let SoftSolutions(formerly a division of WordPerfect) which produced an excellent document tracking product “die on the vine”. I am working with a General Contractor (Construction) and am looking for alternative software.
They do not need bar coding and such, which so far is what I’ve come across. Often the tracking systems I have seen are more for Manufacturing concerns that have ISO 900x compliance requirements.
They are creating and archiving CAD documents, Proposal revisions, Change orders, Waivers, etc. My sole purpose here is to find a product that is pretty much “hands-off”. It should be intelligent enough to see when a document is modified and record the change in its database, have intelligent query capabilities:
Date
filename
Partial/full text
Concept (Capital returns: Assets, Cash, Property, Resources, etc.)
Numeric
Root (Predisposition returns: Predisposed and Disposed)
Phrase
Text & Numeric expressions (such as colloquialphrases and phone numbers)
should also be application & network independent, have automated archive/deletion capabilities. SQL compliance is probably a good thing, we are looking at MS SQL server.
