Who’s Respnosible?…..

Here is a question for all of you out there.

If you have a dial-up account with your ISP. And you have been using the same local dial-up number for 2 years. And this dial-up number was obtained from them.

Then they change the dial-up number so that it is no longer a legitimate number for you to dial. But they keep the number active and still allow you to dial up into it.

They do not notify any of their customers regarding this change. But instead bill you for Global Roaming fees, even though the number you dialed into was a local number.

Basically are you responsible for checking the number on their website each time you decide to dial-up (oxymoron, chicken before the egg) to determine if the phone number you have been using is a legitimate number?

Or do ISP’s have the right to change a phone number without notification, keep it active, and bill additional money for it’s usage.

As a side note…. for my roaming users we have multiple accounts thru this ISP. And they all do not use the same numbers to dial-up into. Most of them use a 1-800 number to obtain the correct dial-up number then use the number that the system spits back at them. But all accounts have the same Global Roaming fees tacked on to them.

It just seems odd to me. And mine was not the only company who was affected.

But the ISP is saying that we are responsible for paying that money, regardless of the fact that they changed the number without notification.

I did read over their contract and was not able to find anything. BTW- It was UUNet/Worldcom, our laywers are going to handle it.

Anyone else have any input.
