why 3 different values of disk space (i'm confused!)??

By martin.caton ·
Hi everyone

I am confused! I have just copied all files from my old hard drive to my new one (I want to preserve all the data but don't want to take an image of the old drive) the amount of data transferred just doesn't seem to add up??

In windows XP SP 2 when I right click the old hardrive it says that 33.6GB of space is used
In windows XP SP 2 when I go into the drive select all the files including hidden files it tells me the size of the files is 29.1GB
In windows XP SP2 when the files have been transferred to the new drive and I select the folder containing all the files it tells me the file is just over 27GB

Why have I got 3 different numbers?

(I used xcopy \s \c to transfer the files by the way)
