Why am I getting "We do NOT relay mail"

By haysys ·
My ISP is Global Internet in the UK. I have been sending e-mail to individual e-mail addresses and for a number of them I get what seems to be an automatic reply with the a message "We do NOT relay mail", "We do not relay - got away" etc.

I searched TechRepublic and the only article that I found that mentioned this stated that the message is due to spam e-mail hiding the real e-mail address. I am not doing this. I am sending my CV to agencies for contract work.

In my case should I take this message as "address unknown" or is there another reason for it?

Why am I getting "We do NOT relay mail"

Might be a too crude mailfilter from their
side, simply blocking ANY mail send of
1 text to >x addresses. The original meaning
of the message would be that the sender's
IP address is not allowed to send, but that's
clearly not applicable in your case.

So please inquire with the ISP, and find out more...

Hope thiz helpz,

Why am I getting "We do NOT relay mail"

The messages you cite are produced when a mail server is set for no relaying and both of the following are both true:
1. The sender's IP address is not in the range of addresses which the server considers its own; and
2. The destination mail address is not in the set of domain addresses which the mail server can deliver to locally.

The most common cause for this are that you may be logged in on one ISP's dial-up service and your mail client is pointing at some other ISP's mail server. Go to web page of the ISP you are dialing into (or connected to via DSL, etc.), and look up the address of the mail server they want you to use. In your mail client, look at the mail server address you are actually using, and if it is not the same, change it.

If you are using multiple email accounts in your mail client, change the outgoing (SMTP) address for all accounts to be the server belonging to the isp you dial in on.

Good luck.
