Why can I not install any MS Office application in my system?

By rambonus ·
I recently installed windows 7 in my laptop and when i was about to install MS Office the error "only one instance of setup may run at a time" always appears. This is the first time I encountered this error message. I reformatted my system for 3 times now and it never happened before. I already tried logging off and on and even check in the task manager the msiexec.exe to remove it as been advised in some forums but when i do try to look for it it does not show even after choosing show all processes from all users...please help me

Version and Patches

by TheChas In reply to Why can I not install any ...

Which version of MS Office are you trying to install? While Office 2007 and 2010 should install smoothly, older versions may need to be finessed to install.

What about patches? Have you installed all of the updates and patches for Windows 7 before trying to install applications?
Same for device drivers. All "?" or "!" devices should be resolved before installing applications.

What security software are you running? If the settings are too restrictive, that can block some installations.

Are you logging in as a regular user or with administrator privileges? That can make a difference.

You might also want to uncheck the look for and install updates option.

I tried all the options that you had stated above and i did realize that I installed the nod32 ver. 5 anti virus first above anything else...it might have given too much restrictions like you said so I uninstalled it and gave the ms office enterprise 2007 a shot, and finally it did well!...I am grateful for your reply and thank you. Now I am enjoying the maximum usage of win 7, with the ms office applications.thanks thanks...:)

Not something I've seen

So what did you use to install 7?

Which version of Office are you trying to install?

If you are using a System Makers Recovery Disc it may add a Trial version of Office to the install which could be the problem here.

I have a copy of 7 Professional and I have installed Office 2003 without a issue. I have to use 2003 because all of the clients will not touch anything newer because of Government Tender Requirements. I'm not sure about anything older though.

I however did a Plain Vanilla Install from a M$ Branded Install Disc and have no idea what may happen with a System Makers Recovery Disc if there is a copy of 2007 or 2010 involved.

I have installed Office 2003 to a NB that came with a Trial Version of 2010 but I first removed the Trial Version of Office and it installed without issues.
