Why can't the LaserJet 5M handle photos?

By anejako ·
Dear All:

My department has a HP Color LaserJet 5M that has served us well for a few years, but I think it's showing it's age. It doesn't like to print photos at any kind of good resolution (especially photos of people wearing white--they come out looking like they are wearing peanut butter). It also doesn't like to print MS Office Drawing objects from Word correctly, especially those with reversed out text. I have tried every printing option I can think of to better these situations. The peanut butter photos I have not been able to solve, but the MS Office Drawing Object problem I was able to work around by cutting the image and re-pasting it as a Picture (EMF).

My LaserJet 5M has the maximum memory I can give it (52MB).

Doesanyone have any idea what I can do to solve these two problems? Do I just need to buy a more recently-made printer?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

You have a very good printer. I think that you may need to download a newer driver
http://productfinder.support.hp.com/en/FindIt?x=Return+to+Drivers+and+Downloads+Search&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.hp.com%2Fsupport%2Fsoftware&s=z&q=LaserJet+5M&Submit.x=12&Submit.y=8
(this is one big link straigh to the 2 option for drivers 5m Color and 5m black)
Also, on clients setup, once you installed the newer driver for server and clients, is to go into the properties of the printer and set the appropriate properties for graphics, it si a good idea to have the printer treat truetype fonts as graphics as well.

Good luck!

Two things comes to my mind:

1st - Did you delte the user id created for anonimous access by mistake?

2nd - Did you change the security option on your Web site from anonimous login to required authentication?

Other things to test:

-Can you access the server from a different machine on the network?
-Can you surf the Internet from the server?
-Did you try a reboot on the machine and then check the Event Viewer for errors?

Good luck!

Calves, this is not an answer to my question. I think that either you posted your answer to the wrong place or some kind of post operation got messed up by the Tech Republic host server.

Either way, maybe your answer will help the person who asked the question about Web access! Maybe if you ask the people at Tech Republic, they will "move" your answer to the right place.
