I started with this company 5 monhts ago and still learning their setup and configurations. I have a PDC and a BDC running NT 4.0 SP6. The PDC is our WINS server and only does file sharing. The system is running Raid 5 and the drives partitioned as C and D. The D drive has total capacity of 8GB we have 2.5 GB left. I think the drive was getting full at one time and they decided to compress it. When I got here the drive actually filled up and I quickly got rid of useless files.
But now we are currently experiencing major problems when users are saving files. Mainly Microsoft excel files. If I create a file in Excel it saves just fine. But then I call that same file up, it loads fine and then try to save, it takes 2-3 minutes to save. (14k file). I unchecked compression on my folder and my files but that didn’t help. Other programs creep along when saving as well. Diskkeeper is installed and I ran that. It says that the drive is heavily fragmented and is 16%. I’m trying to run that every night to get that caught up. Utilization doesn’t top 10-20%.
Anyone have any ideas?? I will give more details if needed.
