Why does it keep restarting?

By reking62 ·
Two of the systems I do trouble shooting on both have the same problem. When shutting down instead of the you can turn the power off screen comming up, the system reboots. One of the systems is an E-machine, the other is a gateway. The E-machine hasto be unpluged or it keeps trying to reboot. The gateway can be shut down. If you use the power button. As it is doing the bios tests before another screens appear. Help it is driving both me and the owners of the systems nuts!

You might check msconfig > On General Tab "advanced" "Disable fast shutdown" if it is unchecked, check it.

Have w98-2ed on both

I know of the settings you are talking about. I have found the systems shut down better with enabled then disabled. I had to reinstall the OS on the gateway machine & also dumped a whole bunch of chat & ICQ software. The restart problem on that one seems to be fixed. So I am thinking that one of the programs that got dumped may have been the cause.
