Why does my client have to click print twice before he gets the printout?

By inteller ·
I have a client that has to click print 2 times before he gets the printout from a newly opened email Outlook 2010. If the email has already been opened it prints normally. All other programs print normally as well. He has Windows 7 with a Dell printer using their open driver due to restrictions with scaling with the Dell driver.

From the application menu or the toolbar?

I assume you added the Quick-print button to the Quick-Access toolbar?

Then you can hit CTRL-P to print or single click to print (hence the name quick print)

Is the issue that he's not hitting the quick-print button?

Hitting the regular print button gives you print options such as print-preview, thus requiring a second click to print.

He is hitting the regular print button under file, gets the options as you described and clicks print again. He has to go through this 2 times (thus, clicking print a total of 4 times) before the email will print.

I have just had a user experience this same issue. The user opens a message, selects file>print then finally hits the print button. A systray popup says the job has successfuly been sent to printerxxx but nothing happens, the message is not printed. The user repeats the steps to print that same message and this time, the message is sent to the printer and it prints successfuly.

The print steps have to be performed twice for each new mail message that is opened in Outlook 2010.

No other application (including Word) has this problem on the user's machine.

Would love to see some technical advice on this.
