I’m working on a school network right now, and have a few Windows Server 2003 Dell computers.
I’m just wondering why the C drive is shared on them by default. I realize that it’s hidden, and I realize that it’s for login scripts and other domain activities to be allowed to take place. But is there a way I can prevent access? I logged into a random machine, and attempted to delete a file from the root. It worked. I could delete whatever I wanted from the root of the server, and I couldn’t figure out why.
It also says the share permissions cannot be set, when I go to change the permissions.
Can someone clear up how this works? I couldn’t find any information on it. It just doesn’t make sense to me in a security way that the root of the servers are shared and available. Thanks!
