Re: your e-mail
"I'm not sure I have a windows 95 machine on my network and I'm unable to type in the command prompt but I can type everywhere else!!! I just can't figure out what could be causing this to happen.."

I thought you meant the file was being altered like by a virus. However, all I can sugest is that you go to the shortcut where you start the Command Prompt and right click on the icon. Check under the Program tab in the properties box and see if there is a startup batch file being run when you click the shortcut. Dos can only do one thing at a time, unlike windows and if there is a batch file running or something in a batch file is causing a lockup you wouldn't be able to type.
You might also try to run the command.com file(which is the dos prompt) from the Run command on the Start menu and see if the same problem occurs. If not you could always try and re-create the shortcut and, if the new version works, delete the old one.

btw. when you post a query to a forum you should always reply through the forum whether you e-mail a reply or not. This helps others who may be having the same problem.
