Windows XP SP3 box.
Objects.data file is 3Gigs!
OBJECTS.DATA is the ‘WMI repository’ (Windows management interface). (Why exactly I need a WMI repository, I don’t know).
The WMI repository is in Windows/system32/wbem/repository/FS/.
When defragging this PC, I discovered this file was so big. The defrag utility gives a warning that it has to skip this file because there is less than 3gigs free on the partition.
This is a special-purpose PC (DVR) that has no software intalled other than the DVR recorder software on it, and it never connects to the Internet.
I’ve researched this a bit and apparently Windows won’t run if I just delete this file, as it has something to do with cacheing the registry??
I may just leave it alone (if it ain’t broke), but it just seems like a space-hog to me. 🙂
