Why is the Explorer error happening?

By jbbekos ·
When I close Windows Explorer, I get the following error message:

iexplorer.exe Application Error
The instruction at "0x5ff3cbc2" referenced memory at "0x70d05668". The memory could not be "read".

It is more of a nuisance than anything else. Any ideas?

You mean Internet Explorer? Ordinarily you cannot close Windows explorer as it's part of the OS.

If IE, then I would suspect a corrupt extension or virus/malware.

To load IE without extensions:
go to Start > Run, type iexplore ???extoff and press Enter.

I would load/run an app like Malware Bytes to check for spyware infection.

Try clearing your cookies, history, cache, etc.
