Network is p2p, mixed OS (3 XP Pro, 4 Win98, 1 W2K). All share a file server (NEW Dell Dimension 2GHz, 512MB RAM). Have Cable DSL with a Linksys 4-port router running into a 3COM Fast-ethernet switch and a Linksys Wireless Access Point.
The network is setup for DHCP and everybody is able to access the internet with no problem. All the time. HOWEVER when the stations are powered up in the morning, they cannot connect to the file server or each other, (but they can get on the internet).
When all the stations are taken down and the server rebooted, the network exists and everybody is now a productive member of society.
I’ve disabled all the power management “features” so the file server HD and Monitor is on 24/7 and has been disabled in the BIOS as best as can be done (the monitor is turned off when not needed). Task Manager Defrags once a week (hasn’t done it yet, not been that long). Sygate has been set to allow all internal network address (range 192.168.2.* – 192.168.2.***).
