why my switch blinking rapidly

By j_brown382003 ·
why lately my switch blinking rapidly so sudden, and my server processor show 100% processing. that couse network slow, and some application fail to load. my only solution is just restart the server, but I think that the worst solution. so pls any body help me what's going on with my server/network? is this DoS attack? but my server doesn't contain any web server, or mail server.

J Brown.

it can be virus problem. when the server is infected with it sends junk packets thus slowing down the network speed in increasing the use of system resources

ugh. my sympathies.
well, maybe it is hardware. maybe data storm or bad nic or something. got fingers crossed.
what has changed? what is on network with this server?
try new patch cable? let's think simple first...
use network sniffer to see traffic.
what server os and sp please?
do you think trying a new nic in the server would tell you anything?
now that we thought simple, run around and pull hair and scream a little.
you might get chance to review diaster recovery now (weak smile)
this server connected to the internet? you got a firewall on there? if yes and no, get firewall product zonealarm, blackice etc whatever
i agree you need to find out right away what this is.
check event and any other logs ya got to see if you can tell what is happening...
eliminate virus/backdoor as possibility. this might be tough if you haven't made prevention your virus scan. try to match symptoms with known trojans for prescribed cure but if you have been infected with backdoor is impossible to be sure you are clean now. (ideally) you need to prepare to start over w fresh os install (and then hardening and imaging) if no known clean backup...
but i hope i am being too dramatic.
let us know what you find out it is...
