What's slow...

by cmiller5400 In reply to why some computer run slo ...

a "*******" sound could be a fan, optical drive, hard drive...

Dust on something will make it hotter not necessarily slower... Unless you mean physical slowness (such as the RPM speed of a fan)

If you mean that the system itself is slow

by OH Smeg In reply to why some computer run slo ...

And is taking longer to load Applications and execute commands than it used to.

And it is a Windows System do some Cleanup on it. Run a good Defraging Utility several times and then things like C Cleaner, Spy Bot S&amp and Malware Bytes

http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html

http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

That's a starting point to work from.

Those Sites are both free and safe.

1 They all are Industry Standard Applications.

2 The only thing that Cleanup removes are Temporary Files in Temp Folders. Things like Cookies and your Browsing History if you so chose but defiantly no Data.

A ******* sound from the CPU may be another issue

by robo_dev In reply to why some computer run slo ...

If your hard drive is nearly full, is beginning to go bad, or has file fragmentation, then Windows will run very slowly.

Also, if your PC does not have much RAM, a ******* sound may result if a big program is loaded, causing the PC to use the hard drive as RAM disk. Excessive use of RAM disk would cause the hard drive to make ******* sounds.

What to do.

by seanferd In reply to why some computer run slo ...

Unplug computer.
Open It up.
Plug it back in.
Turn it on.
Stay close and listen for where the ******* sound is coming from.
Clean, repair, or replace, as appropriate, whichever bit is making the ******* sound.

Might also check your power supply

The fan on your power supply could be getting sticky, which would cause it to
make noise, would not circulate air through the case, and result in unpredictable
behavior such as random lockups, loss of peripheral (such as CD/DVD drives,
USB ports) connections and overall flaky performance. If the fan is not able
to move properly, your power supply could overheat and quit working all together.
