Why W2k Pro Restarts instead of Shutdown

    Locked

    by dharam_s31 ·

I have multiboot system with 98se,w2k pro,w2k srv, winxp. all of the os’s shutdown properly but w2k pro doesn’t. it restarts the system instead of power off. I have installed all the os’s on the primary partition C:. I have set the common permanent swap file between all os’s. That is also on the C:. When I repair w2k installation it solves the problem but, then winxp refuses to boot. when I repair winxp, the same problem rises again. I was running all this os’s healthy since long time. this problem ocuured suddenly.

please tell me how to get out of this problem.

    Thank You…..

Perhaps this is not an ACPI compliant mainboard?

      1. Do you have ACPI enabled in the BIOS? (If this option is available)

      2. Do you have the Advanced option checked in:

      Control Panel\Power Options\APM Tab

Also, check your device manager for any exclamation marks next to any devices. Ensure all drivers (cd burner, vid card, etc) are up to date.

that’s messy as heck, and i dont think you CAN install all the os’s to the same “partition” , perhaps to the same DRIVE, but you have to use different partitions for each os, especially as win98 does not use the same file system as the others do.

your fix most likely will be to clean up the mess, put more drives into the system, or format that c: drive into multiple partitions, one for each OS.
