Why won't Flash Player won't install in windows XP?

By Gis Bun ·
Environment: Windows XP SP3 32-bit

Issue: Trying to install the Adobe Flash Player 10.2. Old Flash Player [wasn't working] was remove. System rebooted. Tried to install latest player from Adobe Download Manager and by downloading the player first before installing. Both failed. Also tried an older downloaded version. Failed. Installer says it was installed. Yet sites such as YouTube says it isn't.

In the web page for , it doesn't show a version installed. There is no Shockwave Flash Object listed in the Manage Add-Ons. User is logged on as administrator.

Right version for your browser?

There's an IE version, and an "everyone else" version.
(If you download, I suggest not grabbing the beta version, but the last stable version.)

While there is obviously an issue, ensure also that you don't have anything blocking scripts, Flash, etc. You get the same message most everywhere whether Flash isn't installed or whether scripts required for Flash to run on the page are blocked.

I know which to install. I also prefer directly from Adobe [as I have a direct link and I know it's the latest - with all the versions that have come out]. As for scripts, nothing saying it's blocked. The fact that Shockwave Flash Player isn't even listed in the Manage Add-Ons makes me believe it's not a script issue but something is blocking. Permissions somewhere?

Sorry no guaranteed answers here

Just something you might like to try.

Load Crap Cleaner it's a free utility available here

Run the Registry Cleaner and remove any issues found then reboot run the same utility again. If it's clear on the second pass try installing the newest version of Flash.

If the Register Cleaner is still showing issues run till it's clean and reboot then rerun the Utility again.

If it's clear try reloading Flash.

if it's still got issues try a Repair/In Place Install of the OS but you'll need a M$ Branded Install Disc not a System Makers Recovery Disc most times.

I'm not a fan of registry cleaner. Most don't work well. Some even cause further problems. In place install or repair is more like a last restort. No guarantees it will do anything positive.
