Why won’t my HP 2355 stay installed on my Sony Vaio VGC-RB-42G?

I am very frustrated by what is happening. My HP 2355 printer/scanner/copier will install ok through “add printer” but on system restore the printer is uninstalled. The same thing happens with Adobe Photoshop. Shouldn’t the hardware remain after a system restore?
