Why won’t my Vista laptop boot Windows 7 install disc?

Ok[, I’m new here so please be kind! I have a Toshiba a205 s5000 notebook manufactured in 2008. I bought this notebook from the original owner who is a friend of mine. The OS is Vista Home Premium. I am not ashamed to say that I buy second hand gear (I am not a rich man) but I must admit that the **COPY** of Windows 7 that i have, came with the laptop and was a **COPY** of his own disc. I held onto the disc for some time ( I actually lost it for a few months) Anyway, I ran across it a few days ago and decided to go ahead and try installing it. Boot device is set to CDrom. Upon startup, with the disc in the drive, it rolls right into Vista (also skipping my BIOS password) as if there were no disc there at all! I can hear the drive and it will play audio CD’s but no boot. THIS DISC INSTALLED FLAWLESSLY onto an old hard drive I hooked up in my desktop today for testing. I have a year old Core 2 Duo E8400 with a new Sony CD/DVD burner. What could be the problem? Let me say ONE THING before you pass judgment on me OK? I have absolutely NO problem going out and buying a genuine copy, which I will eventually do anyhow as I don’t like being dishonest. I just don’t want to spend $125.00+ only to find out my laptop is screwed up and it wouldn’t work anyway, know what I mean? Many thanks, best regards and pray for Japan. -Rob
