Wi Fi coverage

by nhiep_nguyen . Updated 22 years, 5 months ago

Hello,

I thought that WI FI can cover up to 300 feet but have experienced otherwise.

I use Linksys components for my personal LANs, one 800.11b router, wireless PC card for laptop and wireless PCI card for the second desktop, with ADSL modem for internet.
They are working fine when the distance is less than 30 feet but no farther than that.
The same setup is used in France in a brick house (no steel reinforced concret and in California in a typical wooden house. In either case distance is limited to some 30 feet. At 30 feet the signal is very low even in the same (large) room.
The G version components yield the same results.

I would like to know if there is any products that would provide a larger coverage? Or is that the ultimate distance one can expect? In that case Wi Fi is of no practical use.
The question has been sent to Linksys without an answer or comment.

Thank you
