wi-fi network on XP

By ccopley ·
I have linked two PC's together (desktop and laptop)and can see the link, however, I cannot get IE to browse through the main desktop, I know I have missed something simple but just cannot "see the woods for the trees". Help would be appreciated

make sure you have shares set up on both machines. make sure they are both in same workgroup and on same subnet mask. can you ping each other?

You might want to disable the firewall in xp.

Are you trying to get IE to go out the desktop and onto the Internet? Is that what you mean by "cannot get IE to browse through the main desktop"??
If so, then you need to enable Internet Connection Sharing on the Desktop to let the laptop route through it, out its Internet connection (broadband or dialup).
It's pretty easy. Here is a Technet article with the steps:

hope this helps
