Wierd CD ROM drive

By sheraz.chowdry ·
Hi folks

Any reason why one cd-rom drive (at work)will read a cd and the other (at home) won't.
The CD was copied at work and runs fine on PC at work but at home it says unknown file system. When clicking on icon in My computer, it says The drive is not formatted.
Do you want to format it? (But obviously the CD is read-only) Very confused.

Wierd CD ROM drive

Hi...perhaps this might help. First of all it depends on what type of CD you burned at work (a CDR or CD-RW). Some older drives (which you might have at home) cannot read CD-RW discs. The other possible cause is the process on how the CD was burned. If it was burned using Adaptec Direct CD software, you need to have the same software installed at home to view the contents of the disc. If it was created as a mappable drive, only the software knows how to read the data. This is one of the biggestproblems users face when choosing how a CD gets burned. Odds are very good that either your drive at home is too old to read burned CDs or the disc was created in a proprietary format. Good luck!
