Will my harddrive from my hp dv9 laptop work in another hp laptop?

I have an HP dv 9 laptop and there was a recall on it, but i missed the deadline to send it in and get fixed. What I was wondering is this, if the hard drive is still good, would i be able to use it as extra storage on a new laptop?
