Win 2000 computer name and netware login

By kernow_boy ·
Can any one help. I work at a college as a technician where the computer labs have recently started to be defaced and damged.
What I would like to do is when some one logs in with Novell client 2000 to a windows 2000 proffesional PC a log is created that lists the users login name, time, and the full computer name that windows 2000 uses.
any ideas would be greatfully recieved as our IT department tells me that it cannot be done.

Win 2000 computer name and netware login

This is possible through dos commands in a batch file with the output directed to a text file.

Therefore you can add the batch commands to the login script.

Sound like your I.T. Department need a slight kick.

You can also run the auditcon.nlm on your Netware server. It isn't the best auditing, but should give you what you need.

Dude,
This is a roughout. I hope it helps. I did this at my location.

This is the rough login script. It sets memory variables equal to Novell built-in variables. Then it calls the batch file below.

IF MEMBER OF ".testgroup.yourcontainer.orgcontainer" THEN
write "Log Me In"
SET mOSVER="%OS"
SET mLOGDAT="%MONTH/%DAY/%SHORT_YEAR"
SET mLOGTIM="%HOUR24:%MINUTE:%SECOND"
#S:\publicfolder\logit.bat

END

Below is the batch file which you should create in a public place so the login script can execute it. It basically uses the batch echo command and redirection to write the memory variables out to a text file. In this case it records the login user id, the login date and the login time.

The cls clears the DOS box. The EXIT command forces the DOS box to close, otherwise it might stay open on the users' desktop.

@echo off

echo %logname% %MLOGDAT% %MLOGTIM% >> \\myserver\volumename\publicfolder\scanlog.txt

cls
EXIT

Like I said this is a rough out. You will not be able to cut and paste this and expect it to work.

Good luck.
