Win 2000 install problems

by ballyb . Updated 25 years, 6 months ago

I have formatted a HD,and am trying to load win 2000 (full edition). This is an older P.133mhz, 40mb ram, a 4 gig HD (1200 and 2600 partitions). The CD is recognized as F: and win 2000 seemed to be loading for c. 2 hours! However, on reboot, it tells me “operating system not found”. When I do a “dir” on C:, which I can see from booting to a floppy, it tells me the directory has:

$LDR$ 229,264
$WIN_NT$ ~BT

$WIN_NT$ ~LS
NTDETECT 34,468
NTLDR 214,416
TXTSETUP 356,925

Can I load win 2000, from here? What is the next step?

Anyone any ideas? Am I missing something very simple here? Do I need to load DOS, first? I am trying to avoid loading earlier versions of windows…

Any help would be appreciated…
