Win 2000 Pro as RAS server using NIC?

    Locked

    by ngunity ·

Am trying to setup a Windows 2000 professional PC to act as a RAS VPN server, just like we used to be able to do in NT 4.

Can you setup a Win2k box to receive incoming connections via the Network card on the PC rather than a dial-up device? How?

I’ve looked over the incoming connections section in the ‘add new connection’ wizard but it doesn’t offer my NIC as an option to receive the incoming connections. I am running Win2k Pro SP3

Appreciate the effort but neither link contained the info I needed to make a Win2k PROFESSIONAL box as VPN RAS server

I worked it out, or read it somewhere else though so for everyone else’s reference this is how you do it:

        1. Networkproperties and ‘Make new connection’
        2. Select ‘Accept Incoming connections’
        3. This is the tricky part: you are asked to select your device to receive incoming but your NIC won’t be listed, if you want your NIC to accept incoming e.g. you have a public IP, then don’t select any of the listed devices just hit next
        4. The rest is simple step by step stuff, and bingo your Win2K pro is a RAS server
