WIN/2000-PRO. VIRTUAL MEM PROBLEM

By ephraim2 ·
HI THERE!
I AM NOT ABLE TO LOG INTO WIN-2000-PRO WS,
DUE TO VIRTUAL MEMORY PROBLEMS.
I DON'T LIKE TO RE-FORMAT AND RE-INSTALL WIN-2000.
MEMORY, AND HDD FREE SPACE IS OK.
Q: IS IT POSSIBLE TO FIX WITHOUT RE-INSTALLING EVERYTHIN?
Q: HOW?

I am sure that there is a fix for your problem. Try placing the 2K cd in the drive and attempt to repair. However as unsavory as it may be the best choice of action would be to go ahead and re-install.

How much RAM do you have? Can you boot to safe mode and change your VM settings?

Press F8 at boot start and choose Safe Mode --> and see if your dekstop appears. Right-click on My Computer --> properties --> advanced --> Performance options --> change --> and change your VM Initail Size and Maximum Size to 2.5 or 3 times your current RAM. (If you have 128 MB... then change both to 384 MB) --> Set --> OK --> OK --> and ok. Then reboot and see if you can get in normally.

If none of these work and before you do a FULL re-install, install Win2K on top of itself. That has worked for me a few times when I was experimenting with Win2K back when it first came out. Much luck!

Try booting up in safe mode and then log on. Once you log in increase your virtual memory. More than likely though there is something else wrong besides your virtual memory.
