WIN 2k m/c in NT network

I have a WIN 2k Professional laptop which does not login to the NT network. When i try to add it to the network thru network id wizard i get an error that the credentials are clashing with existing credentials. The computer however does not appear on the server manager screen of my NT PDC.
The network is available in the win2k m/c thru network neighbourhood.
