I have a computer running Win 2k that freezes on login. The freeze comes about the same time as the log-on sound would play so I disabled the sound card, and the freeze went away. The problem is that this exact same hardware was running fine before the format and reinstall (it was previously on Win 2k). Booting to Directory Services Repair mode (safe mode) will boot fine AND the adio will install and work with not so much as an error. So what is different in Directory Services Repair and Regual boot that could cause this freeze. I can’t even pull up task manager when it freezes. The ONLY difference in the computer before and after the formatt is a BIOS upgrade that was made, which I am working on getting the original versoin to see ifthat helps any. In the mean time if anyone can explain the difference between this Directory Services Repair mode and normal it could help a lot.
