Win 2k server - Login problem

By simon_poole ·
Ok I have a win2k server which I cannot log into.

The error I get is "The local policy of this system does not allow you to log on interactively".

Its a server ion a local school, 3 or 4 people have admin access and ive been called in as they are now unable to get into the server.

Has anyone got any idea's on how to salvage this?

Any help appreciated.

Try starting it up in safe mode and see if any new progs have been installed, or try restoring to a point when it was ok

I cant physically log into the server, i get the same login error in safe mode.

Rolling back to last successfull login doesnt work either.

Looking more and more like a format and re-install

Local Policy

You must open Local Policy program in Administrative Tools menu and set the "Log On Locally" to Interactive = logon.

You can read this for more information:,295199,sid63_gci980812,00.html

good luck

If this helps...

I had this issue on a Win2K workstation. It operated fine until I joined a domain. Since I don't own Netdom I reloaded the OS.

Group Policy

If you have the 'deny local login' implemented in group ploicy for the domain that your server is in, that might be a problem. I have run into that issue before.
