Win 2k SP2

By Shanghai Sam ·
Hi I have a problem with Windows 2000 SP2 that I need help with. I have been installing SP2 on our company's workstations. Up until now, I have had no trouble. The problem I am having is with my home PC's. I download and install SP2. The installation completes and computer reboots. Windows 2000 begins to load then I get a blue screen which states "inaccessable boot device". This has happened on both my PC's. I reload Win2k and everything is fine. All my data and programs remain intact.Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks

Win 2k SP2

I've seen this before on Compaq computers where the service pack installs a new device driver that doesn't see the old hardware. Perhaps your boot device is a SCSI controller? Since the problem occurs on two separate systems I'd identify anything common between the two as far as hardware in the boot system (controller, motherboard.)

The Comapaq solution was to install the new dlls, then install the Service Pack. If you didn't catch the conflict before installing the SP simply copying in the proper DLL would suffice. If NTFS was in use and you don't have any tools for mounting an NTFS partition handy you would want to install Windows 2000 into a separate directory without wiping out the original install.
