Win 7 issue.... annoying....

By ---TK--- ·
Hopefully someone has came across this issue, I tried to search the net... nothing. It began with the Win 7 Ultimate RC 64 bit edition, and now its happening (purchased) with Win 7 Home Prem. 64 bit edition... I just use it for gaming, which is why I didn't bother with the Ultimate edition. The issue could not have crossed over b/c the new install I turned into a RAID 0 (yes its ghosted :)).

Issue: When I first boot up (cold), I login, everything loads correctly... And it looks like you are good to go, but when I left click the task bar, nothing happens? Right click the task bar, nothing. Right click the desktop, I get the menu... So, I hit the Win key, arrow over to log off, log off and log back in. Now everything works...?

Has anyone seen this?

Either run this command

by Jacky Howe In reply to Win 7 issue.... annoying. ...

or navigate to it through the Registry and check ro see if these two items match this output.

reg query "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon" /s > C:\winlogon.txt

Shell REG_SZ Explorer.exe
Userinit REG_SZ C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe,

If they match you could try creating another User account and see if it works.

Solved.... for now :)

Creating a new profile didn't work, however running "reg query "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon" /s > C:\winlogon.txt" did work...

Rebooted twice and the issue has not come back :) thank you!!
