Win 95/98 clients error

Win95/98 clients are trying to save Word documents on server and receiving "There has been a network or file permission error. The network connection may be lost". Connected to Novell 5.0SP6a connection with Novell client 3.3. Tried saving to localdrive with no problem on one workstation. Checked file "rights" at DOS. Users have RWCEMF rights to all directories and files. Just started hapening this morning... Nothing new done to server recently except installed new version on Mcafee Netshield4.5 this past weekend. Any help would be appreciated. Checked Novell support but could not find the true answers.

I know this may sound dumb but check the patch cable to the server. I had a server I could save txt files to but not documents. It was the size of the document that mattered- checked all software and hardware settings to no avail. Dumped a trace and the server was asking for packets that were lost and receiving no response. It was the patch cable-this cable had been in there for 1 year at least. Never suspected that. (always the last thing you look at HEH)

Hi,
Thanks.....We recently changed out our old 10 Mb hubs and replaced them with Nortel Baystack 10/100/1000 switches and replaced all patch cords. Have note seen problem anymore.

I haven't seen this problem on Win9x machines before but I have seen it on Win2000 machines. I have yet to figure out what is causing it to happen but the resolution was to uninstall and the reinstall the latest novell client.
