    Win 95 Registry editor locks up

    The editor locks up suddenly for no reason. I can’t figure out why. Pleas help.

      First run scan disk to check for any errors,if problem is not corrected then I would use the cd to reinstall the OS from cd to fix corrupt files.

      The registry editor is stuck in reading the registry file. It must have been corrupted probably due to an abnormal Windows shutdown. Or it must have been cross linked with other deleted files and again caused by abnormal Windows shutdown. Run Scandisk to repair the files. If that didn’t fix it, you can restore it from your backup, if you backed the registry, and if you have backup in the first place. Otherwise, bite the bullet, reinstall Windows to update the registry.

      1. Shut down your computer.
      2. Boot to DOS F8 for 95 or hold down the Ctrl key after your keyboard is recognized in 98 and then F6.
      3. Run scanreg /backup.
      4. Re-boot
      5. IF that does not correct the problem same sequence then run SCANREG /FIX.
      This corrects most problems I have had.
      6. Down load the program REGCLEAN.EXE from the microsoft website. (You can find it by doing a search of microsoft.com)
      7. Before installing NEW software run REGCLEAN and then re-boot the computer. If everything is working properly then install the new software.
      The program appears to clean the registry and more importantly it creats an un-install that allows the restoraton of the registry to it’s previous condition.
