I have a HP computer with win 95 ..
It has the Hp restore disk and a Win 95 companion CD… all boots fine and all… the problem is that whenever i run scandisk either from desktop or from dos at the end of scandisk running I getthe blue screen of death…
that says..
SCANDSKW Caused a general protection fault in module DSKMAINT.DLL at 0008:00002141
I have reinstalled recovery disk and still get same problem
My system is HP pavilion
any ideas out there
I found out that there is a answer from micosoft about this
Take a look at the following article from Microsoft.

(remove spaces from the above URL)
Micosoft says to :
1. Restart computer in MSdos mode…( I did this)
2) Change to the windows.system directory.( I did this too)
3) Type the following line at the MS-DOS prompt
extract
I did and it didnt workFound I do not have micosoft plus to do this ..then it says to extract the …Dskmaint.dll…file from the precopy2.cab file on your original win 95 CD or disk…
the problem is that I have a win 95 companion CD and I cant find this fileon it to restore it…
Any ideas
I did use the HP system restore CD and restored all software
the problem still exist
So any help as to how to get this silly file off the companion CD ..I also found there is no setup on the companionCD…how nice
