Win 95 setup without Floppies

By Doc Logic ·
I've been cleaning out my old computer to give to my sister. The system won't boot except to DOS prompt (must have deleted the wrong thing). Normally I'd just run SETUP again, but when I do it asks for the floppy in A:. I've been Add/Removeing components using CAB's on C: for years, and all the .CAB and etc are on the hard drive in C:\Win95, but all the floppies are in storage 350 miles away.
Does anyone know how to get SETUP to NOT ask for floppies, or how to rebuild the registry from DOS (I think its looking for un-needed non-system DLL's I deleted when I removed software my sister doesn't need)

Go to a dos prompt and type edit c:\windows\system.ini Under [boot]change
;shell=Explorer.exe
shell=progman.exe
Choose File>Save then reboot
If the Program Manager comes up, go to File>Run, type regedit and hit Enter
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup
right-click on SourcePath, choose modify and type in the path to your CAB directory.
Or, from Program Manager go to File>Run, type winfile, navigate to your CAB directory and double-click setup.exe
Good luck

Jim

I don't remember all of the switches for Windows setup but type setup /? in the C:\Win95 dir and see what choices you have. You probably have already tried to go into safe mode but if not try hitting the "F8" after the POST and see if you can enter Safe Mode (Choice number 3). If you can get in with "Safe Mode" then try going into the JimB suggested. If you can get in and the Registry and edit the source location like reg fix doesn't work then you may be able to run setup while in Windows.
