Change to win98 directory on CD and then type setup. In your case:

E:>cd win98
E:\WIN98>setup

Chas, as usual is correct. You need a Win98 boot disk. Can be downloaded from site below if Win98 system is not available to create one.

In order to run setup from a floppy boot, you must use a W98 startup floppy, not a DOS boot floppy.

You can create a W98 startup disk from any PC running W98.

Open Add/Remove programs and click on the startup disk tab. Follow the prompts to create a startup floppy.

Alternately, you may be able to set your BIOS to boot from your CD and then boot directly into Windows setup.

If you are using a Win98 boot disk, watch the screen as it boots up. It will ask if you want to boot with cdrom, hit the enter key. It will install the drivers for the cdrom, if it has them. Watch the screen and look for the drive letter it gives to the cdrom. Use that drive letter to start setup. It will give a drive to the install stuff and a drive to the cdrom. Try switching between the drives for setup.

You must be using a 98 (regular or SE) upgrade CD. If it is the Upgrade CD, it will require another version of Windows. If you were install from a Full version CD, it would work.
You option is to grab a 98 (again, reg or SE, I suggest SE) FULL version install and use that. Or, when it prompts you for proof of Windows, pop in a 95 CD if you have one.
That I hope helps.

You need drivers for your cd rom on the boot disk.

You can download a win98 boot disk from bootdisk.com
